How to Become a Qualified Job Coach for the Disabled
Becoming a job coach is an option for many with experience in a professional field. A job coach teaches clients how to look for jobs, and the necessary skills to get hired. Once clients are hired, the job coach helps them adjust to their new roles in the workforce. However, there are some basic things you should do before becoming a job coach for the disabled.

1
Get a degree in a field that deals with human interaction and understanding motivation as well as working with the disabled. If you have a college diploma in psychology, communication or a similar field that teaches you how people think, feel and operate, you can likely get a coaching position.

2
Get experience working as a job coach, with disabled people, or both. Jobs as a counselor, a psychologist, or even as a caseworker may give you some of the skills you will need as a job coach. Experience working with the disabled in lieu of education could still qualify you for a job coach position, as long as your years of experience at least equal how long you would spend in school. However, precise requirements may depend upon the employer.

3
Apply for a position with a government program or non-profit organization that requires job coaches who work with the disabled. Having either education or experience is good, but having both makes you an even better candidate.
