How to Receive a Fax With a Cable Phone Line
Faxing is a useful tool for both personal use and business. Sending documents digitally can really speed up the completion of important tasks. Today, cable internet providers are offering telephone service using a method called Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as an alternative to traditional land lines. Luckily it is easy to receive a fax over VoIP cable phone line using a Windows PC.

1
Plug your VoIP phone line into your computer's modem.

2
Disable call waiting on your VoIP line if you have it. Call waiting can cut off a fax being downloaded to your computer if you receive a phone call on your VoIP line. Call your cable phone provider to find out how to disable call waiting on your VoIP line.

Open your Microsoft Fax software. Click the "Start" button. From the Start menu click "All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Fax" and, finally, double-click "Send a Fax." This will bring up the Microsoft Send and Receive fax utility. If you can't find the utility in your All Programs folder, do a search for the word Fax. Make sure any telephones connected to the VoIP cable phone line are hung up before you receive the fax.

Click the "Receive a Fax Now" button on the menu bar of the Windows Fax software. When the fax comes over the VoIP cable phone line click "Answer Now." Your fax will now begin to download to your computer. Once the fax has downloaded, check your fax Inbox to read and check your fax.
