How to Find Out Who Owns a Safe-Deposit Box
Safe-deposit boxes are either rented from a bank or offered as part of a banking package. Finding out who has a certain safe-deposit box can be nearly impossible, but it's easier to work backward and find out whether a certain individual owned or owns it. Even if you follow all of the right steps, though, it doesn't mean that you'll find the answers. However, if you search systematically, the job gets a lot easier.

1
Find an individual to search. If you have a family member who's sick, or if your significant other told you to look for a safety deposit box, then you have at least a name to check with. Get all of the information about the person you're checking on, such as age, Social Security number, address and anything else you can come up with.

2
Check this person's financial statements. If he rents a safe-deposit box, then he will receive a regular bill or debit for it. If it was given to this person as part of a banking deal, then the box should appear on his statement. Once you find where the box is, you know which bank to contact.

Contact the banking institution. If you ask whether a certain person has a safe-deposit box and you provide a legitimate reason, the bank may give you a yes or no answer. If you are on that safe-deposit box as a person with access, then the bank will give you more information because you're entitled to it.
