How to Stop Sweat Strap Irritation

How to Stop Sweat Strap Irritation thumbnail
Sweat straps can result in rash or irritation.

Sweat straps are used to help keep sweat under control while playing sports. They are especially seen in tennis, where players wear a strap around their wrist to keep sweat from making their hands slippery and on the forehead to keep sweat out of their eyes. While playing a sport, the sweat soaks into the sweat strap. Eventually irritation from the sweat strap can occur as the result of friction and soaked sweat.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the sweat strap immediately after use. Always make sure that it is well rinsed because detergent that stays on the strap might cause irritation to some skin types when the sweat gets the strap wet. If washing the strap by hand, soak it in soapy water for awhile and then rinse it until there are no more soap bubbles.

    • 2

Wear a tight sweat strap. A tight sweat strap will not move much during sports, preventing friction that often results in irritation. If the sweat strap is stretched out or loose, it moves while playing a sport and rubs up against the skin.

    • 3

Change the sweat strap to a new strap during a timeout or break. Most sports have a half-time or break at least once during the game. At this time, change the sweat strap so that the sweat build up is lessened and there is ultimately less irritation. Sweat is not bad for skin, but the buildup of sweat combined with friction can result in irritation. Changing the sweat strap will stop the irritation before it starts.

    • 4

Clean the skin immediately after playing sports. Always wash away the sweat and dirt that builds up while playing a sport or getting sweaty. This prevents later irritation as the result of sweat and dirt sitting on the skin too long.
