      Connect the telephone line to the modem provided by the Internet Service Provider.

      Use an Ethernet cable to connect the modem to the router. Connect the computer to the router with another Ethernet cable. Turn on the computer and place the router installation disc in the computer's CD drive. Follow the step-by-step instructions to install the software for the router.

      Plug in the router and modem to an electrical outlet and press the "ON" button located on the back. Look for green and yellow lights to "blink" to show that the devices are working.

      Set up an Internet connection. Go to the "Start" menu on the computer and click "Network." Click "Set up a connection or network" under the "Network and Sharing Center" to set up an Internet connection.

      Choose your connection and select "Next." Type the information from your ISP and click "Create." Click on "Manage Network Connections" and find your connection. Right-click on the connection and click "Connect/Disconnect" to connect to the Internet.
