How do I Connect an HP 85 Printer to an SBG900 Wireless Modem?

Network printing is a useful way to enable wireless printing on a non-wireless printer, such as the HP OfficeJet g85. Even though the HP g85 does not have wireless capabilities, by connecting it to a wireless modem, you can still benefit from wireless printing. This makes it more convenient to share the printer with multiple computers working from different areas of the office or home. Wireless modems like the Motorola SBG900 Surfboard allow Ethernet port connections from the HP OfficeJet g85.

Insert one of the clear plastic connector pieces at the end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the HP g85.

    • 3

Locate the Ethernet port on the SBG900 wireless modem, which is the first port from the top on the back on the unit.

    • 4

Insert the other clear plastic connector piece at the end of the Ethernet cable into the SBG900's Ethernet port.

Tips & Warnings

  • This is just the first step to setting up the HP g85 as a network printer. You still have to configure your computer to recognize and work with the g85. To do so, start the printer installation wizard on your computer and follow the screen prompts. (See Resources)

  • The SBG900 wireless modem only has one LAN/Ethernet connection available. If you have any other non-wireless equipment that needs this connection, you will not be able to use it at the same time as the HP g85 printer.
