1
Form an 'L' shape out of 2x1 boards to the height and depth for your awning. The vertical arm of the 'L' is the height and the horizontal arm is the depth.
-
2
Set a third piece of wood to connect the top of the vertical arm to the end of the horizontal arm. You should now have a triangular shape.
-
-
3
Attach the wood together at the joints by inserting a screw with a power drill.
-
4
Make another frame of the same size as the first one. These are the frames for the sides of the awning.
-
5
Cut two pieces of wood with a saw to the width for the awning.
-
6
Attach one of the width pieces to the top corners of the triangular frames. The frames should be set right at each edge of the width piece.
-
7
Fix the second width piece to the lower corners of the frames as you did for the upper corners.
-
8
Pull the shade cloth over the frame and staple it in place with a staple gun. Make sure that the cloth is lying flat and straight before stapling it to the frame.
-
9
Clean away excess shade cloth with a soldering iron. This will seal the edge and prevent any frays.
-
10
Attach the awing to the wall by driving bolts through the frame where it touches the wall.

Tips & Warnings
Make several awnings to cover all of the windows along one wall of your house for a uniform style.
If you don't make the awning deep enough, it will not protect you from the sun or weather.
