Pomeranians are known for their signature fluffy coats.

Pomeranians possess fluffy coats that many of their owners like to show off by keeping them brushed and groomed properly. Because of their trademark coats, many folks have their Pomeranian's hair trimmed, rather than completely cut. Trimming the hair creates a stylish look that is both neat and contained. Fortunately, cutting a Pomeranian's hair is typically easy and you can do it at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush your Pomeranian with a slicker brush. Removing any knots or tangles is essential before you can trim your pom's hair.

    • 2

Trim the excess hair coming from the tops of the pom's ears with scissors. Cut the hair at an angle and use your fingers to protect the dog and prevent accidentally cutting the ears. Trim the hair as short as you would like.

    • 3

Brush the hair on the head forward and use the scissors to trim it. Cut the hair into a half-circle. Place the hair between your pointer and middle fingers and use them as a guide. Take care not to cut the ears.

    • 4

Trim the pom's mane with your scissors. Cut it as long or as short as you would like, but keep it the same length all around the dog's head. Place the hair between your fingers to help you maintain the same length and cut the mane into a circular shape.

    • 5

Trim the pom's chest hair as short as you would like, along with the hair on the back of the front legs. Start at the top of the chest and work your way down to the floor. Brush the hair on the back of the legs so that it is standing straight back, then trim from the top of the leg down.

    • 6

Trim the pom's skirt, or the hair that hangs along its sides in between its legs. Cut the hair in a semi-circle shape, with the hair in the middle a bit higher than the hair near its legs.

    • 7

Trim the hair on the back of the legs after brushing it. Similar to the front legs, start and the top and cut downward. Trim as short as you would like. Carefully trim the hair close around the genital and anus areas to keep them as clean as possible.

    • 8

Twist the pom's tail, then use scissors to trim the top off. Trim as much off as you would like; however, most pom owners leave their dogs' tails rather long.

    • 9

Trim any hair that is hanging off of the feet. Turn the pom's paws over and cut any hair coming out from the pads.
