How do I Advertise Cookie Jars?

How do I Advertise Cookie Jars? thumbnail
Advertise a cookie jar if you want to sell it.

Most American households had at least one novelty cookie jar during the 1940s and 1950s. By the 1980s, the sale of the Andy Warhol collection made collecting cookie jars fashionable. There are avid collectors who continue to search for jars. You can advertise cookie jars for sale and nearly always find interested buyers if the price is right.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the cookie jar to remove all traces of dust and dirt. Unless the cookie jar has paint over the glaze, a toothbrush and soda are good cleaning items if the cookie jar is glass or pottery. If there is visible flaking of the paint or paint loss, you will create more paint losses by washing.

    • 2

Check for damage. Pottery cookie jars are easy to check when wet, since cracks and chips will show darker than the other parts.

    • 3

Write down all damage you locate on the cookie jar. Crazing is damage to the cookie jar collector. Crazing is surface cracking of the exterior glaze, usually uniform over an old pottery cookie jar. Stains are also damage. Stains on the base are most common, caused from exposure to surface water. Check the inside of the lid for chips.

    • 4

Look for a maker's mark on the cookie jar. Most cookie jars are marked on the bottom, but some are marked inside of the lid. Glass jars often have an embossed mark, or a mark molded into the glass. Research the mark if you're unfamiliar with the maker. Look online or in a cookie jar book at the public library. If your cookie jar has no mark, you may identify the maker from a cookie jar book by using the shape and checking the index.

    • 5

Ask the local antiques or collectibles shop for assistance if you do not find the mark on your own or if your cookie jar has no mark. Identifying the maker is important to advertising cookie jars for sale.

    • 6

Take photographs or have some photographs taken with a digital camera so you can include photographs in an advertisement.

    • 7

Write an advertisement for your cookie jar or jars. Include the shape, the maker, the size in inches, the condition and the price you want for each cookie jar. Your advertisement should include the words "cookie jar" or "cookie jars," if you have more than one for sale, along with your contact information.

    • 8

Place the advertisement in the most likely location to attract interest. Cookie jar collectors look online and check local antiques and collectibles malls. They also may belong to a collector's club, either for the maker or for cookie jars. The Cookie Jar Net has avid collectors and a website. Find the most likely market and wait for contact from a prospective purchaser.
