1
Contact your local city or county clerk to obtain a kiosk operating license or permit. Licensing and permit regulations will vary based on where you live and may or may not be necessary. Permanently housing the photo booth in a commercial space that parties rent may require a building permit or commercial business license as well. Fully explain the business concept to your local city or county officials to ensure the appropriate permits are obtained.

2
Buy a photo booth by contacting a company that has gone out of business or a local vendor that specializes in event entertainment. A vendor may be able to supply you with a booth or direct you to a company that sells photo booths. Decide which specifications you would like to have in the photo booth before making a final purchase (e.g. digital prints, photo type, photo backgrounds, etc.). Stay within your target financial range, but also remember that more features in the booth will help your marketing.

3
Purchase additional equipment needed for the booth. Booths require a photo printer that uses ink cartridges. Some booths are manufactured with these units already installed, but the printer and accessories may be missing or damaged in pre-owned models. Choose a high quality printer that can also be repaired quickly.
-
4
Arrange transportation for your photo booth. You will need a truck, van or trailer to haul the booth when transporting it to and from an event.
-
5
Create marketing collateral. Develop a price list for customers to view before they decide to rent. Consider creating a website for that lists information about your rental service. Use the website to detail all of the services offered. Sell additional items such as picture DVDs or custom-made shirts to earn extra money.
-
6
Market your business. Use the Internet, local newspapers and flyers to advertise your rental service. Getting the word out is crucial in gaining customers. Consider allowing one or two large events to use your booth for free when you first start the rental business. Promotional use will help spread the word about your exciting photo booth rentals.
