How to Crochet White Booties thumbnail
Booties make great baby gifts.

Booties are soft knitted or crocheted shoes intended for infants, and they are a common gift in baby showers, first birthdays and other related special occasions. Both male and female babies wear booties when the colors and designs are appropriate. Create simple white booties with basic crochet stitches, and modify the basic pattern to customize each pair to your liking.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a slip knot in the end of the line, leaving a small tail. Slip the crochet needle through the loop so that the knot is on the left, and then tighten the slip knot around the needle.

    • 2

Yarn over, then hook the new yarn and pull it through the old loop to create a single chain stitch. Continue until you have 26 chain stitches in total.

    • 3

Half double crochet from the second chain from the hook all the way across the row so that you have 25 half double crochet stitches in total. Chain on two additional stitches, and then turn.

    • 4

Half double crochet (HDC) in each previous HDC stitch across the row as before. Chain two additional stitches, and then turn. Double crochet each stitch across the next row, and then turn.

    • 5

Slip stitch in the initial five double crochet stitches, then chain three and then double crochet in the same stitch and across the remaining double crochet stitches until only four remain unworked. Chain three additional stitches, and then turn.

    • 6

Double crochet in each previous double crochet stitch, including the very last stitch, and then chain three stitches and turn. Single crochet into the first stitch, then chain three, then single crochet into the next stitch and repeat this across the entire row.

    • 7

Fold the workpiece end to end and use a whip-stitch to bind it together with a yarn needle Flip the bootie right side out, and use your hands to shape. Fold the top down to create an edging.
