When you're looking for an easy way to cleanse your face without using products featuring harsh chemicals, the oil cleansing method may be the way to go. The oil cleansing method (OCM) is a natural way to soften, cleanse and exfoliate your skin. The basic concept is to use the hot steam from a facial steamer to open up your pores while allowing the cleansing oils to penetrate and treat your skin.   • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Caster oil
  • Small bowl
  • Water
  • Facial Steamer

      Mix the extra virgin olive oil and caster oil in a small bowl. The amount of each oil you use depends on your skin type. For dry skin mix three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil with one tablespoon of caster oil. For normal skin mix two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil with two tablespoons of caster oil. For oily skin mix one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil with three tablespoons of caster oil.

      Pour a generous amount of the oil mixture into the palms of your hands and gently massage into your face and neck.

      Relax and allow the oil to penetrate your skin for a few seconds to several minutes. The amount of time is up to you, depending on your time restraints and what feels good to you.

      Add water to your facial steamer according to your steamer's directions. Wait until the steamer is ready to use.

      Steam your face in the steamer for a few minutes, or whatever feels comfortable for you.

      Massage a generous amount of the oil mixture into your skin for a second time.

      Rinse your face with warm water, making sure to remove all the oil residue.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have acne, try adding a few drops of tea tree oil to the mixture.
