How to Upload Files to FTP Site
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a set of rules that facilitate communication between computers and servers across great distances. FTP sites allow the transfer of files and folders over the Internet, according to Loyola College. While you could download any number of freeware FTP client programs, using your web browser allows for the transfer of files without the need for third-party software.

Type the address of the remote site to which you will transfer your files into your browser's address bar and press "Enter." Addresses for FTP remote sites begin with "ftp://" instead of the more familiar "http://" prefix.

Type in your username and password if the remote site requires it. Some sites allow for anonymous file transfers and do not require a login account. If required, you will generally find instructions for logging in or creating an account on the same webpage where you found the remote FTP site address.

Find the area of the page intended for uploading files and follow the provided instructions. The upload area and processes differ from site to site.

Follow the directions provided on the FTP site to locate the file you wish to upload. Many times--but not always--you will see a button labeled "Browse" or "Find" which will allow you to search your hard disk for the file. Highlight the file to upload and click "OK." Follow the provided directions to upload the file.
