Home Remedies for Dogs With Mange
Mange is a skin condition caused by mites infesting your dog's coat. Sarcoptic mange causes excessive itching, hair loss and crusty formations because of the dog's excessive scratching. Demodectic mange, also known as red mange, is not as serious as sarcoptic nerve, but it can be highly contagious among other dogs. However, home remedies can alleviate and remove mite infestations.

- Fortified dog food
- Fish oil capsule
- Burdock root
- Dandelion root
- Echinacea tea
- Dog brush
- Dishwashing soap
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Borax

Feed the dog a fortified diet. A healthy diet will ensure the dog has the required vitamins to combat the mange.

Check the ingredients list on the back of the food package, and make sure the first ingredient on the list is a type of meat. If the label starts with a "meat by-product" or wheat meal, do not buy the dog food. These are substitutes and are not as nutritious as genuine meat. The first ingredient should ideally be chicken or lamb.

Open a fish oil capsule and let the contents seep into the dog food. The antioxidants in the oil will help the dog combat the mange and heal the dog's coat. Chopping a few pieces of burdock root and dandelion into the dog's food can eliminate toxins in the dog's immune system. A few drops of echinacea tea into the dog's water bowl can also improve the dog's health.

Brush the dog's coat to remove dead skin cells and loose fur. The brushing will also aid in removing mites from the fur.

Use simple dishwashing soap to clean the affected area. Massage soapy water onto the mange area, then rinse with warm water. Repeat this process until the water runs clear.

Mix one percent hydrogen peroxide with water. Mix 2 tablespoon of borax into the mixture. Apply this mixture to the dog's coat on a weekly basis. Let the mixture dry on the dog's coat. The mixture will kill the mites infesting the dog's fur.

Tips & Warnings
Only apply a hydrogen peroxide and borax mixture to your dog's coat once a week.
