How to Apply Makeup to Almond Shaped Hazel Eyes
Makeup can emphasize your almond-shaped hazel eyes, making them look bigger and brighter. Apply eye shadow, mascara and eye liner to accentuate their greenish hue and widen their almond shape. Your eyes look best in brown, taupe and bronze shades, so choose a palette of three coordinating shadows--dark, medium and light for optimum effect. Once you are comfortable with application, experiment with different shades (try an emerald trio) for a dramatic evening look. For a fresh spring or summer day look, try plum eyeliner and eye shadow with mauve hues. Does this Spark an idea?

Add Depth With Eye Shadow
-
1
Sweep your darkest shade of eye shadow inward along the crease starting from the outer lashes and stopping in the middle of your eyelid. Using a small sponge eye shadow applicator will enable you to apply the shadow to the crease of your eye, providing more definition.
-
2
Apply the medium coordinating eye shadow shade across your entire eyelid using a medium sponge eye shadow applicator. Blend the shadows together using your slanted eye shadow brush.
-
-
3
Pat the very lightest shade of coordinating eye shadow across the top of the eye just below the brow using your large sponge applicator. Carefully blend into darker shadow.
Line and Define

-
5
Apply white eyeliner pencil to the inside rim of your bottom eyelashes, starting at the center of your bottom lash line. This will help your eyes appear wider and brighter.
-
6
Dust the shadow underneath your bottom lashes using a thin eye shadow brush and the darkest shade from your selected palette. Carefully apply a thin line of color beneath the lash line of your lower lids. Start from the center of the eyelid and go outward to the end of the lash line.
Maximize With Mascara
-
7
Curl eyelashes before applying mascara. Curl eyelashes starting at the lash base using an eyelash curler. Hold curler in place for five seconds.
-
8
Brush on dark brown mascara starting from the inner lashes. Work outward toward the end of your lashes using steady, even strokes. To maximize the length of your lashes, apply three coats of dark brown mascara to your top lashes.
-
9
Apply mascara to bottom lashes using a quick, downward motion. To prevent clumping and smudging on sparser lashes, use only one coat. For best results, start from the outer eye working inward.

Tips & Warnings
Extend the wear of your eye makeup by priming the eye area with an eye makeup primer or oil-free foundation.
Keep cotton swabs handy to quickly remove mascara and liquid eyeliner smudges.
Thoroughly remove eye makeup each night to prevent irritation to the eyes.
Clean makeup applicators monthly with warm, soapy water and let them air-dry.
Use waterproof mascara if planning outdoor activities.
You can maximize the curling effect of your lashes by heating the curler with your hair dryer; set your hair dryer to the lowest setting and direct the warm air on the eyelash curler for five to 10 seconds (touch the eyelash curler to ensure that the metal isn't hot).
Use caution to avoid direct eye contact when applying eyeliner and mascara. If this happens, flush eyes with water and pat dry. If eyes stay red and irritated, discontinue use of the products and consult a physician.
