How Do I Hardcode English Subs on Movies?
Subtitles provide a useful function in allowing audiences from all over the world to watch and understand foreign movies. Movie viewers would be missing out on a large selection of quality movies if subtitles were not available. If you have a foreign movie you would like to watch, you may wish to add subtitles directly onto the movie to make it more convenient. Without hardcoded subtitles, you would need to open the movie file and the subtitle file every time you want to watch it. By hardcoding the subtitles, you combine these two files together into one.

1
Open your web browser and use a search engine to find a program that hardcodes subtitles. Two popular programs are VirtualDub and AVI ReComp.
-
2
Open the "Source" section of your program and select your movie file as the source. Select the destination where you want your new file to be saved after subtitles are hardcoded. Rename the new file to differentiate it from the old file that is without subtitles.

3
Open the section that allows you to make modifications your video file, such as adding subtitles. Check the box for "Add Subtitles" and select the subtitles that match your movie. If you don't already have a subtitle file for your movie, you can find and download one from websites such as OpenSubtitles and Subscene.

4
Adjust the settings for the program, such as whether the program should delete temporary files when the job is complete. Some programs will also let you choose how big the movie file with subtitles will be once it is hardcoded. If you don't want to wait for the program to resize your movie file, just set it as the same amount as the movie already is.

Click on "Start" when everything is ready, and the program will hardcode the subtitles into the movie. The hardcoded movie file will be created at the destination you set.
