The colors of the Irish flag are green, white and orange.

Ireland is brimming with traditions and legends and some of the most well-known are St. Patrick's Day, the leprechaun and Irish dancing. If you are holding a food festival, it is quite easy to tie in the culture with some of Ireland's most famous food and drink products.

Instructions

    • 1

Decorate your stall at the food festival with traditional Irish colors. The national flag of Ireland consists of green, white and orange; and, of course, the color green has long been associated with "the Emerald Isle." Decorating your festival stall will ensure that people understand the meaning and theme of your outlet.

Adorn your festival outlet with some Irish decorations and symbols. Famous symbols include the shamrock, the harp and the Celtic cross. The harp is important to Ireland because it is symbolic of the Gaelic era when people would entertain each other with music; it is also the symbol of Guinness, one of Ireland's biggest alcohol exports. The Celtic cross is a variation of the Christian cross with a circle placed on top of it and dates back to the 7th century. You could also decorate the stall with the flag itself.

Combine a symbol with a food type. For example, Irish soda bread can be molded and baked into any shape; if you bake it into a shamrock shape you are promoting the culture and the food together. Similarly, Irish Christmas cake is traditionally covered with a marzipan icing; you could decorate the cake with Irish symbols.

Offer free cultural giveaways with each food product that a customer buys. For example, with an Irish stew you could offer a flier that explains its historical background. Or you can offer some miniature leprechauns or shamrocks for the younger customers.

    • 5

Dress up in an Irish costume. For example, you could dress up as a figure from Irish legend, such as a leprechaun, or as a famous Irish author or historical character.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ensure that each stall has a different food or drink and uses one symbol or theme, rather than a mixture of foods and decorations.
