How to Put Fine Highlights in Dark Hair
Applying fine highlights to your hair can spruce up your style or help you achieve a younger look. Fine highlights in darker colored hair is seen on many celebrities and musicians, making it popular with teens and adults everywhere. Using aluminum foil to separate and shield the highlighted strands of hair will protect the rest of your hair from the colored dye to ensure the highlights have a clean and neat appearance. Purchase a hair color product and developer to match the color you wish to dye your highlights. Bleach can be used instead of hair coloring if you want extremely light-colored highlights.

Mix the hair color dye and the developer in a container using one part hair color and two parts developer. If bleach is being used, skip this step.

Tear off a 3-inch-long section of aluminum foil from a roll and fold it in half.

Use a comb to part small 1/8-inch sections of dark hair and place the hair strand along the crease of the aluminum foil.

Apply a small amount of hair color mixture or bleach to the strand of hair in the aluminum foil using a 1-inch paintbrush. Continue until the hair strand has been covered completely.

Close the two ends of aluminum foil around the hair strand and rest the foil on the scalp. Repeat this process until you have achieved the desired number of highlights.

Allow the hair to sit for at least 15 minutes.

Remove the pieces of aluminum foil from the hair.

Gently rinse your hair with warm water. Use a highlight-specific shampoo product to gently massage and clean your hair. Rinse completely with warm water.
