How do I Find People Entering the USA on a Visa?
Visas are used by immigrants to prove they have the legal right to be in the United States. It is illegal to do a search of other people's immigration status without their consent. However, it is possible to search the work status of employees you are hiring to work for you if you are their employer. It is also legal to check the status of your own visa if you are trying to become a U.S. citizen.

If looking to see if a person other than yourself is entering the USA on a visa, you must ask that person yourself. Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, which is a part of U.S. law, looking up other people's immigration status without their consent is illegal because visa records are confidential. Only the person applying for a visa can get the status of their own visa from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Department or at a U.S. embassy or consulate in another country.

If you are checking the work status of an employee who has filled out a Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to see if he can work legally in the United States, go to The Department of Homeland Security's E-Verify Web site at E-Verify.uscis.gov. Enroll in E-Verify by following the instructions and providing your name, phone number, and e-mail address. Once enrolled, enter the employee's information from his Form I-9 in order to verify his work authorization.
