Work as a volunteer for 1 to 12 weeks. It is not much, but if many people volunteer to go work in Africa, it will make a difference. Western people can bring the much-needed skills to destitute Africans. There are many programs to volunteer, for example Cross-Cultural Solutions.

Donate to a charity. Charities buy food for the poorest Africans, build schools, provide micro-finance loans to local entrepreneurs, and do much beneficial work. Leading charities operating in Africa include the World Food Program, UNICEF and the UN Refugee Agency.
