How to Load an SRT in Windows Media Player

An SRT file contains movie subtitles and usually accompanies a video file. To see a video's subtitles you must load the SRT file onto your media player. Windows Media Player, however, does not support the SRT file format. The only way to load and play an SRT file in Windows Media Player is to first install a third-party media codec.
