White scars on the face are most commonly connected to the body losing the natural pigment melanin in a particular area. A dermatologist can provide the best solutions to scarring problems, thought there are a few options individuals can choose from to provide coverage over facial blemishes. There are a variety of causes for white scars, therefore it is important to consult a dermatologist for any questions or concerns.

Different Means of Providing Scar Coverage

Apply liquid concealer directly upon the white scar, and blend by dabbing the concealer in and around the scar with a finger. Face concealers are a type of makeup that provide maximum coverage to conceal white scars. Many concealers provide dermatologist-approved formulas that can last up to 12 hours, and are non-comedogenic and oil free. Depending on the color difference between the white scar and the surrounding skin, a green concealer can be used first to better match the skin colors, with a flesh-toned concealer dabbed on top, for a more even skin tone finish. Green concealer can be purchased at most major beauty retailers or online.

Place a quarter-sized amount of liquid foundation into the palm of your hand, spread over both palms and apply to the entire face, paying close attention to blend into the hairline and neck areas. Foundation can provide a more overall coverage, working best for large or prominent scars, and is available in both liquid and powder options. While there are many differences between the two, pressed powder tends to provide less coverage and blend in more naturally than liquid foundation. Blending foundation on the face before a concealer is applied also works for more evened coverage.

Apply a desired amount of tinted moisturizer in the palm of one hand, rub palms together to distribute moisturizer to both hands, and then spread over the entire face area, paying attention to blend into the hairline and neck areas. Tinted moisturizer is a great substitute for both concealer and foundation. Providing the least amount of coverage, tinted moisturizer is best on limited or small white scars on the face, by providing a more even complexion by blending a small amount of color across the face. This works best for both males and females, providing a natural finish. Many brands tend to not clog pores, which can cause breakouts.

Tip

Picking a color of foundation one shade lighter than your natural skin tone can provide a better balanced complexion between the scar and the surrounding skin.

Warning

Apply any type of concealer, including foundation and tinted moisturizer in as natural of light as possible, to ensure the color is evenly distributed and blended into the skin.
