They are one way to add a an outdoor feel to a wedding while retaining all the comforts of the indoors. If you like the look of an outdoor tented wedding but worry about rain, heat, cold, or swarms of insects, an indoor wedding decorated with a tent ceiling is a compromise.

Things You'll Need

  • Lengths of sheer fabric
  • Removable hooks (optional)
  • Tacks (optional)
  • S-shaped hooks (optional)
  • Retractable tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Select your fabric. Consider your needs. You will be hanging the fabric in long swaths from a central point outward to imitate the look of a tent or canopy.

Measure the dimensions of the room where you plan to hang your tent ceiling. Estimate how many yards of fabric you will need, and how many lengths of fabric you want to hang.

  • Ask your venue about their rules for hanging or displaying items. Will they allow you to make small holes in the wall? Depending on their rules, you can use several different methods to hang your fabric.

Tacks or screw-in S-shaped hooks are among the easiest methods to hang fabric. However, iff you venue does not allow you to make holes in the ceiling, use removable hooks that detach without making a mark on the walls or ceiling.

  • Install one hook per length of fabric in a circle around the center of the ceiling. Secure one end of the fabric to the hook.

  • Use a tape measure and pencil to mark the points for each hook you will install in a series of widening concentric circles around the center. This will ensure that your hooks and your fabric are aligned evenly.

  • Install hooks after you are finished measuring and marking, and continue securing your fabric to the hooks so that each length of fabric radiates outward from the center. Allow the fabric to hang down in swaths from the ceiling.
