How to Setup a Direct Cable Crossover Ethernet Connection in Windows XP
Computers may be connected in a variety of ways using Windows XP. The most common way is through a network that usually includes a router or hub as a centralized location for the network to communicate through. Another common way is to use the built-in remote desktop feature to connect to an XP machine over the Internet. However, when only two workstations need to be connected for a short time and are in close proximity, a crossover cable may be used to make a direct Ethernet connection.
