How to Design Your Own Laptop Case
Laptop cases can get expensive, but even those who are broke want to protect their investment. Making a laptop case is a straightforward sewing project that can be done even by beginners. You can personalize your project by quilting, painting or using stickers.
Things You'll Need
- Bubble wrap (small bubbles with both sides flat)
- Cloth
- Needle
- Thread
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure your laptop's height, width and depth.
-
2
Fold cloth around your laptop and pin it. Ensure the more attractive side is facing the laptop since this will be the inner pocket.
-
-
3
Fold bubble wrap around the cloth wrapped laptop and tape the sides. Depending on how thick your bubble wrap is, you may want to double it. Use as much as you feel is necessary because this is the main thing protecting your laptop. A rule of thumb is larger, more expensive laptops should have a thicker layer while smaller netbooks will not need as much.
-
4
Fold a second layer of cloth over the bubble wrap. Mark the edges and allow space for a zipper if desired although a simple sheath case will not need one.
-
5
Remove everything from the laptop after marking all the edges and reassemble it for sewing.
-
6
Sew the cloth together. You can do it simply by sewing it like an envelope and leaving ragged edges as a decorative effective. If you are an accomplished sewer, you can sew it as you would any padded bag. Remember that a laptop case is meant to be a tight, protective sheath, so do not leave it so loose that it can fall out.
-
7
Decorate your protective sheath. You can add pockets for carrying tools or leave it as is. Paint on the cloth, add bits of string or lace or do any sort of decoration to this basic case.

Tips & Warnings
You can also do this project by recycling plastic waste such as tape and shopping bags instead of sewing cloth for a unique project.
