How to Troubleshoot Windows Real Player

Real Player offers a very popular option for video software. Real Player can properly display most of the major file types for video. Real Player generally runs very smoothly and efficiently; however, sometimes the software can malfunction and not work properly. If you have some time and patience, you can troubleshoot Real Player using Windows to recover the software to working order.

1. Vary your update time. One of the most common Real Player problems is an inability to update the software. According to Real, you should vary the time you try to update the software. Sometimes peak hours will make it impossible for you to access the updates.

2. Reconfigure your Real Player. Go to the "View" menu and click "Preferences." Go to the "Transport" tab and select "Automatically select best transport." Select the "Auto-configure" button and click "OK" to save your preferences.

3. Try a workaround by setting Real Player to run in only HTTP mode. Enter the "View" menu and select "Preferences." Go to the "Transport" tab. Click "Use specified Transports." In the settings select "Use HTTP only."
