How do I Play in a Pre-Qualifying Event for a PGA Tour Golf Tournament?
To play in some PGA tour events players must first pass through a pre-qualifying stage. For example, The U.S. Open is made up of 156 golfers each year. Of this field of 156, nearly half of the players have to play in a pre-qualifying event. The other half has gained exempt status. In the U.S. open, exempt status can be gained by winning the championship in the past 10-years or winning any other major in the past 5-years.

Fill out the application for the event that you would like to pre-qualify for and mail it in. Be sure to include your entry fee as all of these tournaments will have a charge associated with them. You will receive confirmation from the USGA stating that you are signed up for the pre-qualifying event of your choosing. Once you receive confirmation you are considered an amateur player who can participate in a PGA event if you get through qualifying.
