Giving the gift of pregnancy to a woman who cannot get pregnant on her own

Donating your eggs is a generous donation. For many women, the ability to conceive a child of her own is a dream that could not be a reality without egg donations from other women. There are many medical reasons why some women need the eggs of a donor, but no matter what the reason, your eggs will forever change the life of someone who so desperately wants to be a parent and cannot do so by natural means.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine whether or not you are a viable candidate for egg donation. You must be between the ages of 21 and 35, have previously given birth to a healthy baby and be a non-smoker.

    • 2

Choose an agency to which to donate your eggs. Agencies such as the Fertility Network and Reproductive Endocrinology Associates are available for egg donations in Springfield, Illinois.

    • 3

Contact the fertility clinic of your choice. You will be directed to their website where you will fill out a lengthy form that includes all of your personal information, medical history and a biography of yourself. You will be asked to provide your educational history, personality type and photos of yourself and of your own children, which is optional.

    • 4

Submit your application to the fertility clinic. It will be reviewed, and if it is accepted, your profile will be posted on the clinic's website for potential families to view. If you are chosen by a family in need of eggs, you will be required to visit the fertility clinic to undergo a full medical exam to test for any diseases.

    • 5

Wait for your test results to come back. You will be notified if your health is good enough to be an egg donor, and you will meet the family to whom you will donate your eggs, if you'd like. This is not necessary. Your doctor at the clinic will give you medication to change your menstrual cycle, and you will have to start taking fertility drugs to produce the greatest number of eggs.

    • 6

Schedule an extraction date with the clinic to have your eggs removed. You will need someone to drive you to and from this appointment, as it is a major surgery. You will be compensated for your eggs. The amount you will earn is to be discussed between you and the fertility clinic of your choice, but the rate is usually several thousand dollars.

Tips & Warnings

  • Donating your eggs means that you will have a biological child being raised by another family. Before making the decision to donate, be aware of the possible implications and emotional feelings you might experience.
