How to Use SmitFraud Removal

SmitFraudFix removes scareware Trojans.

The SmitFraud Removal Tool, or SmitFraudFix, is a free utility that removes SmitFraud infections such as Antivirus 2009, XP Spyware 2009 and other variations. SmitFraud infections are a type of Trojan virus known as scareware. Scareware Trojans pretend to be antivirus or anti-spyware software to promote installation. Once installed the Trojan produces false malware warnings and advertises fake commercial removal software. The SmitFraudFix tool runs in Windows Safe Mode and removes these Trojan threats.

Instructions

1. Download the SmitFraudFix tool from one of the websites in the resource section. Note the download location so that you can easily find the file on your computer.

2. Restart the computer. Boot the computer into safe mode by pressing the "F8" key when the Windows Splash Screen appears and selecting "Safe Mode with Networking."

3. Navigate to the folder containing the SmitFraudFix tool. Launch the SmitFraudFix tool.

4. Select "Clean" from the menu that appears. Press the "Y" key when asked if you want to clean the registry.

5. Press the "Y" key if asked if you want to restore a corrupted file. Allow the scan to finish and follow any additional on-screen instructions to remove detected SmitFraud infections.

6. Close the SmitFraudFix tool. Restart the computer.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not interrupt SmitFraudFix while it is scanning your computer. Doing so may damage system files and cause Windows not to load.
