How to Backup Windows 98

Backing up your computer is a safe way to make sure that if anything happens to your computer, your files will be recoverable. If your computer is running on Windows 98, you can back up all or some of your files using the software Microsoft built into the operating system and a storage device. You can use any device you want to store your files, like a CD, memory stick or floppy disc.

Instructions

Connect the device you are backing up onto to your computer. If a disc is needed, make sure you insert it before starting the backup.

Click on the "Start" menu on the toolbar and move your mouse over the Programs tab.

    • 3

Look for the folder called Accessories; locate the System Tools folder inside it. In the System Tools folder, you will see the Backup Program option.

Schedule a new backup task by clicking on "Create a New Backup Job." A new window will open where you can select the folders and files from your hard drive that you want to save.

    • 5

Highlight the folders you want to backup and click on "All Selected Files." Wait for the transfer to complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Label your backup disc with the date you made the backup so you can keep track of which files are on it.

  • Do not try to backup more files than your backup device has storage space for, or you will not get a complete backup.
