How to Turn Off Skype Links on Web Pages

Skype users can call numbers on a web page by clicking on the highlighted text.

Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox users of Skype may notice links containing phone numbers are highlighted. Skype users can click the link on the web page and the number will be dialed within the Skype program. For some Skype users, the highlighted links are convenient. For others, it is a nuisance. Clicking on the links accidentally and dialing a number can be irritating; avoid this issue by turning off the Skype links on web pages.

Instructions

Method One

1. Click "Manage Add-Ons" in the "Tools" menu on the Internet Explorer toolbar.

2. Locate the Skype add-on in the list, then click "Disable" in the lower left corner of the Add-Ons window.

3. Click "Close" to exit the window.

4. Close the browser window by clicking the "X" in the upper-right corner.

5. Restart Internet Explorer.

Method Two

1. Click 'Start," then "Control Panel."

2. Click "Add or Remove Programs," then wait for the list to populate.

3. Click "Skype Add-Ons," then click "Remove."

4. Restart the browser window once the uninstaller wizard is complete.

Method Three

1. Left-click the "Skype" icon in your browser's toolbar.

2. Uncheck the "Turn number highlighting on" box, then click "OK."

3. Close the browser window and open a new one.

Tips & Warnings

• You may need to uninstall Skype completely to get rid of the highlighted links. When you reinstall the program, choose the option to customize your download. Uncheck the option to download add-ons for Skype.
