How do I Configure Sonicwall to Return Pings?

The SonicWall firewall allows you to block a number of internal and external attacks on your network. It accomplished this by inspecting all the traffic passing through it, applying sophisticated filters that try to minimize your risk. A common way of flooding networks is to send a large number of ping requests, as this can congest the processing power and bandwidth of a router, and the firewall disables ping by default. Your firewall can easily be configured to allow ping requests, which you may need to do to perform network monitoring tasks or to allow your network to be discovered by the outside world.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a web browser, and access the firewall on your network. If you have not changed its address, you can access it by going to "http://192.168.0.1" without quotes.

    • 2

Log into the system with your user name and password. If you have not reconfigured this, the user name is "Administrator," and the password is "admin" without quotes.

    • 3

Click "Access," and then click "Rules."

    • 4

Scroll down to "ICMP Rules," and remove the check mark next to "Ping."

    • 5

Click "Apply" to save the settings. SonicWall will now respond to ping requests.
