There may still be plenty of ink left, even when your printer claims there isn't.

The Brother MFC-8460N is a laser all-in-one machine that prints, scans, copies and faxes. The MFC-8460N and other Brother machines can display a "Toner Life End" message, sometimes even when there is ink in the toner cartridge or when the ink cartridge is brand new. There are fixes that can help you continue to print when you see this message and there is ink in the cartridge.

Instructions

  1. Shake the Toner Cartridge

    • 1

Remove the toner cartridge from the machine.

    • 2

Shake the cartridge gently to distribute ink evenly throughout the cartridge. According to Brother, this can sometimes fix the "Toner Life End" error.

    • 3

Replace the cartridge into the machine.

    Clean the Corona Wire

    • 4

Open the front cover of the machine.

    • 5

Pull out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.

    • 6

Slide the blue tab on the drum unit side to side several times to clean it. Be sure to click the tab back into its starting position when you are done or you may get black stripes on your prints.

    • 7

Return the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly to the machine.

    • 8

      Close the front cover.
