How Do I Grease the Mower Deck of a Super LT 1554 Cub Cadet?

The mower deck on a Cub Cadet Super LT 1554 has a grease fitting on each of the two front deck wheels for adding lubrication so the deck rolls evenly over ground. Adding lubrication to the two grease fittings on the top of the deck greases each spindle shaft for smooth operation of the cutting blades. Applying lubricant with a grease gun to these four areas keeps the deck's wheels and blades from binding for a manicured lawn. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Cub Cadet mower off and let it cool entirely before greasing the deck.

    • 2

Load a trigger-pull grease gun with a tube of No. 2 all-purpose grease.

    • 3

Squat down on the left side of the lawn mower. Place the end of the grease gun coupling on the grease fitting and push it straight down. Squeeze the grease gun trigger until grease flows out of the fitting.

    • 4

Grasp the end of the grease gun tube and lean it to one side while pulling it off the grease fitting. Repeat this procedure for the front, right-side deck wheel.

    • 5

Lower the riding mower deck to the lowest cutting position by pulling the deck lift lever back.

    • 6

Go to the right side of the mower down and squat down. Locate the grease fitting on the deck spindle that is directly in the center of the cutting blade on the right side.

    • 7

Place the grease gun coupling on the fitting and press down to lock it in place. Squeeze the grease gun trigger to fill the fitting until grease flows out of the fitting. Repeat this procedure on the left side of the lawn mower deck for the left deck spindle.

Tips & Warnings

  • A grease fitting is full when the grease flows out of the fitting and the excess runs out of the fitting.

  • Grease a Cub Cadet mower deck at the beginning of each season to lubricate the moving parts so they do not bind.

  • The two deck spindles are in the center of each set of cutting blades, and they turn the blades when engaged.

  • Always let a lawn mower cool completely when making adjustments or replacing parts to avoid excessive heat and burns from warm components.
