      Use an Ethernet cord to connect the cable modem provided by Charter to an Ethernet hub. Connect computers on your local network to the Ethernet hub with Ethernet cords. Check to see whether each computer has a network card. If necessary, purchase network cards and install them in computers on the network. Run the installation disc that came with the network card to install the drivers and follow the step-by-step instructions.

      Turn on the power to the computer, modem and hub. Go to the "Start" menu on the computer and click "Control Panel" and then select the "Network and Sharing Center." Choose "Set Up a Connection or Network" to set up your Internet connection for your Charter cable. Follow the on-screen prompts and enter your computer information in each field. Click on "Finish" to complete the network setup wizard.

      Restart your computer to finish the installation. Return to the "Network and Sharing Center" and check your connection. View your public network to view the status of your Charter Internet connection. Click on "Sharing and Discovery" to select information and files that can be shared on your local network.
