1
Open your ironing board, making sure all the safety latches are locked completely. Set the iron at the wide end of the board and plug it into a socket. Allow the iron to heat to permanent press.
-
2
Take the trousers of your Canadian Forces dress uniform and turn them inside out. Lay them on the open ironing board front side up.
-
-
3
Dampen the lint-free cloths with water. Do not soak the clothes.
-
4
Lay the clothes on the seams of the trousers. Move the iron over the trousers, careful not to make a crease on the legs. Use light to medium pressure and overlap your strokes with the iron so nothing is left unpressed.
-
5
Turn the trousers over and repeat the ironing instructions on the other side. Remove the damp cloths. Allow the trousers to dry thoroughly on the ironing board.
-
6
Take a trouser hanger and leaving the trousers inside out, hang them on the hanger. They should fall straight down from the hanger and not crease in the center.
-
7
Turn the Canadian Forces dress uniform shirt inside out and place on the ironing board. Have the front of the shirt facing you.
-
8
Iron the front of the dress shirt with the iron at a slightly hotter temperature, if you can set your iron higher and lower. If you cannot, keep it at permanent press. Use up and down motions and overlap so none of the fabric remains unpressed. Turn the shirt over and iron the back of the shirt in the same manner.
-
9
Lay the sleeves, one at a time, flat on the ironing board. Make sure you press firmly as you iron along the sleeves as there should be no crease on the front or back of the sleeve.
-
10
Roll the sleeve as you finish each one. Turn the shirt over and do the sleeves on the back side, again rolling them up as you go along.
-
11
Iron the cuffs, epaulets and the collar of your Canadian Forces dress shirt. Remove any strings or stray bits of thread with a small scissors. Turn shirt right side out.
-
12
Place the ironed shirt on the hanger with the shoulders resting on the horizontal part of the hanger. Do not use a hanger that stretches the shoulders out.
-
13
Button the dress shirt to the top. Hang both trousers and shirt of your Canadian Forces dress uniform in a place in your closet where they will be undisturbed until you need them.
