How do I Upgrade a Portege 3505 Memory? thumbnail
Upgrade the memory in your Portage 3505 laptop.

Your Portege 3505 can handle up to 1 GB of random access memory. If your laptop came with less than that amount, you may run into performance issues with the device. A lack of memory causes a computer to be unresponsive and seem to get stuck and lag behind your actions. The lack of memory can also lead to crashes. The Portege 3505 takes SDRAM modules.

Instructions

    • 1

Save all of your work and turn off the laptop. Disconnect all of the cables and cords from the unit. Let the laptop sit for a few minutes so it has a chance to cool.

    • 2

Flip the laptop over and place it on a flat surface. Slide open the battery compartment latch in the bottom-left corner of the laptop. Remove the battery.

    • 3

Unfasten the screw that is securing the memory compartment cover on the laptop. The memory compartment is located in the center of the back of the laptop. Remove the cover.

    • 4

Spread the two clips, one on either side of the memory module, away from the edges. Slide the memory module out of the laptop.

    • 5

Take the new memory module out of the package without touching the metal edge. Match the notch on the memory module with the knob in the slot.

    • 6

Slide the module in at an angle and then press down on it so it lies flat in the compartment. It should snap into place.

    • 7

Put the cover back on the compartment. Fasten the screw. Put the battery back in the laptop and then turn back over. Connect all cables and cords and turn on the computer.
