How to Word Wedding and Reception Announcements

How to Word Wedding and Reception Announcements thumbnail
Announcements provide guests with information about the wedding.

A wedding is one of the most important events of your life. Everything, from the flowers to the wording on the invitations, contributes to making the day special. Knowing how to write your wedding and reception announcements can help your wedding be the event you've dreamed of. Proper wording gives your guests information about the time and date, location, attire and other highlights.

Instructions

  1. Wedding Announcements

    • 1

Begin the wedding announcement with a saying or quotation. Love poems, such as "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost or "You Being In Love" by E.E. Cummings, are classic examples.

    • 2

Add the name of the married couple after the love poem or quotation. Either write the names separately or write the names as "Mr. and Mrs." The first option allows the bride to announce that she wants to keep her last name, while the latter option is for a bride who wants to take her husband's last name.

    • 3

Write the location of the wedding, including the address, city, state, zip code and time. You can also write a little snippet about the location. For example, if you are having your wedding reception at a botanical garden, mention that the flowers will be in full bloom and the sun will be shining upon the altar.

    • 4

Enclose the wedding announcement with the option to RSVP, the amount of seats to be reserved and the dress code of the wedding. Many weddings are black-tie events, but the bride and groom might want to have something casual on the beach. Make sure your guests know what to wear.

    Reception Announcements

    • 5

Invite your wedding guests to the reception. Tell the guests that the reception starts immediately after the wedding.

    • 6

Talk about the food that will be catered at the wedding reception. List the appetizers, main dishes and the flavor of the wedding cake on the announcements.

    • 7

List the address, city, state and zip code of the reception. If the reception has a different dress code, mention the required attire in this section of the announcement.

    • 8

Enclose the reception announcement with the option to RSVP.
