How do I Find Free Newsgroups?
A newsgroup is an online community of people who carry on a continuous discussion that revolves around a particular topic. The term "newsgroup' is sometimes used synonymously with "Usenet," which is the largest and oldest collection of newsgroups on the Internet. There are a number of sources of newsgroups on the Internet.

Visit Google Groups. Google Groups is the home of the original Usenet collection of newsgroups, and has been vastly expanded by the creation of millions of new groups in recent years.
Search Google Groups for newsgroups of interest to you. Searching as you would a regular Internet search--type in keywords for the topics you want to know about. Use the "Advanced Search" to fine tune your results.

Use the Google Groups Directory to browse for groups in categories of interest to you. The directory is organized by topics, and sometimes uncovers interesting types of discussions that can be overlooked in a more general search.

Visit Yahoo Groups. This is the Internet's other major collection of newsgroups on the Internet, with a similar interface to Google Groups. Use the search features and the directory feature to look for relevant newsgroups.

Tips & Warnings
Online forums are similar to newsgroups even though they use a different format for online conversations. Search for a topic of interest to you along with the word "forum" to see what's available online.
Some newsgroups are private and may or may not accept new members. The newsgroup homepage usually has instructions for contacting the group moderator to request access.
