How to Become a Wireless Reseller thumbnail
Wireless reseller programs offer wireless devices and service plans.

Wireless technology has penetrated 91 percent of the United States population with 24.5 percent wireless-only households, according to data collected by the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association in December of 2009. As a result, the wireless industry offers the possibility of a lucrative business investment. Wireless companies offer value-added programs that provide a business opportunity to resellers. To become a wireless reseller, at minimum, complete an application process, review the contract and complete the required training. Wireless reseller requirements vary based on the wireless service provider.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a solid business plan. The business plan lays the foundation for all business endeavors. A plan should include solid information. At minimum, address marketing, wireless service plans, target market, insurance, customer upgrades and devices. Provide a detailed financial plan as part of the business plan so it can also serve as a financing instrument. Contact the U.S. Small Business Administration for information about business plans. (See Resource).

Go to wireless company websites to review products, services and reseller agreements. Review the available plans, devices and basic reseller requirements. For example, T-Mobile requires that resellers meet a specific financial threshold to apply for retail sales. Wireless companies that offer reseller partnerships typically ask that you contact an indirect sales representative. Reviewing the website provides some background information for the selection process. Choose three companies you would like to contact.

    • 3

Contact each company selected. Complete the pre-application and wait for an indirect sales agent to contact you. Alternatively, fill out an online form to request contact regarding each program.

    • 4

Complete the remaining steps in the application process. The pre-application gathers basic contact, business and financial information. Complete the application process by submitting detailed financial and business records.

    • 5

Prior to signing the contract, make sure you understand your responsibilities, obligations and the pricing and payment structure. Sign the agreement when you fully understand and agree with the terms.

    • 6

Attend the required training. Most wireless companies provide resellers with training opportunities to learn about the services, plans and devices they offer.
