How to Make Your Own Stencil for French Manicures

A French manicure gives your fingernails classic style without overwhelming color. By using fingernail polish in understated colors, you can create fingernails that look clean and beautiful. Choose a muted fingernail polish color for the base of your fingernails and make the tips of your nails bright white with white fingernail polish. Instead of purchasing ready-made stencils, make your own stencil for French manicures to make the white tips even and professional looking.

Things You'll Need

• Masking tape
• Fine-line permanent marker
• Scissors
• White fingernail polish

Instructions

1. Draw a crescent-shaped stencil that follows the natural curve of your fingernail where the white tip meets the nail. Use the permanent marker to draw a 1/4-inch-wide stencil onto the masking tape making the stencils as long as the width of your fingernail.

2. Make a stencil for each fingernail on the masking tape using the permanent marker.

3. Cut out each masking tape stencil with the scissors.

4. Place each stencil on your fingernails, fitting them over each nail with the rounded curve of the stencil at the point where the natural white tip begins on your fingernail. Press the masking tape down snugly on your fingernails to prevent fingernail polish from seeping under the stencil.

5. Paint the white tips onto your fingernails with the white fingernail polish. Allow the polish to dry completely and then remove the stencils. Discard the stencils.
