2. Match your water consumption needs to the distiller's holding capacity, knowing manual distillers can hold up to one gallon of water while automatic distillers can store 10 to 25 gallons of distilled water. The holding capacity differs from the distill rate because it represents the amount of distilled water a distiller can store for later use.

3. Compare construction, and look for food-grade stainless steel or a stainless-steel boiler.

4. Compare dispenser material, and look for food-grade stainless steel or "non-leaching" plastic. The dispenser consists of the nozzle that dispenses the water. Food-grade stainless steel ensures your water remains pure, and "non-leaching" plastic consists of plastic that will not pass chemicals into your water.

5. Compare prices. Manual distillers cost $19 to $89. Automatic distillers cost $59 to $299.
