How do I Determine Ink Level Remaining in an HP 3840 Printer?

The HP Deskjet 3840 is a thermal ink-jet printer that uses pigment and dye-based ink cartridges--one black, one tricolor and an optional photo cartridge. The printer software monitors ink cartridge levels and provides an estimated level reading in the HP Deskjet Toolbox on the user's computer. To determine the ink level you must open the Toolbox application--directly via a desktop icon or the HP program menu, or through the "Printer Properties" dialog box.

Instructions

1. Turn on your HP 3840 printer.

2. Open the HP Deskjet Toolbox via the method that best matches your printer setup. If you're using a non-networked printer, double-click the HP Deskjet Toolbox icon on your computer desktop or go to the "Start" menu and select "HP Deskjet Toolbox" from the HP program menu. If you're using a networked printer, open another application, go to the "File" menu, select "Print," click the "Properties" or "Preferences" button, click the "Services" tab and then click "Service this device" to open the Toolbox.

3. Click the "Estimated Ink Level" tab in the HP Deskjet Toolbox to check the ink levels.
