How to Make Broccoli au Gratin

Even kids will like this broccoli dish. Honest.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 lbs. broccoli cut in large pieces
  • 3 tbsp. unsalted butters
  • 1/2 tsp. white pepper ground

  • 1/2 tsp. grated nutmeg

  1. Step 1

    Preheat broiler.

  2. Step 2

    Bring 4 c. water to a boil in a large saucepan.

  3. Step 3

    Add broccoli and cook for five minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Drain broccoli in a colander and chop coarsely.

  5. Step 5

    Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

  6. Step 6

    Add shallots and cook for three minutes. Add garlic and cook one minute.

  7. Step 7

    Put shallots and garlic in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse a couple of times.

  8. Step 8

    Add sour cream and pulse four times.

  9. Step 9

    Add broccoli and 3/4 c. Parmesan cheese, and pulse four more times.

  10. Step 10

    Stir in nutmeg, salt and pepper.

  11. Step 11

    Pour broccoli mixture into a 2-quart souffle dish and sprinkle the top with the remaining Parmesan cheese.

  12. Step 12

    Broil for two minutes, or until cheese is melted and the broccoli mixture is a pleasant golden color. Serve warm. Yields 6 cups.
