The Windows 2000 operating system has a remote access application called "Terminal Services." The Terminal Services application was renamed with Windows XP to "Remote Desktop." Enabling remote access on a Windows 2000 machine is similar to the steps needed for newer operating systems. After it is enabled, you can remotely control your Windows 2000 server from anywhere on the network.

      Click the Windows "Start" button and then click "Settings." Click "Control Panel" to open a new window. Double-click "Add/Remove Programs" in the Windows 2000 Control Panel.

      Click the "Configure Windows" button on the left side of the window. Click the "Components" button to open a new dialog window. Click "Next" in the first wizard window.

      Check the box labeled "Terminal Services" and the box labeled "Terminal Services Licensing." Click the "Next" button to move to the next window.

      Click "Next" at the printer driver screen to install the drivers by default. Click "Finish" at the final window to install and enable Terminal Services on your Windows 2000 machine.
