How to Increase Video Memory on Virtual PC thumbnail
Virrtual PC emulates a PC on a Mac.

The Virtual PC program enables a Mac computer to emulate a PC running the Windows operating system---if only in a window on the desktop as opposed to taking over the full screen. The video memory devoted to displaying images on the "PC" may be increased. This will provide for more details in what is being seen as well as increase the number of colors that can be displayed. The Virtual PC's control panel may be modified so that there is more video memory devoted to the "PC." Doing this does not require changing any setting in the Windows operating system.

Instructions

Double-click on the main hard drive's icon to open its window. Double-click on the "Applications" folder to open its window. Scroll down to the VIrtual PC program. Double-click on the Virtual PC program to launch it.

Click once on the Virtual PC program's icon that is now in the dock to the left or at the bottom of the screen. Go to the "Settings" menu at the top of the screen. Select "Control Panel" from the drop-down menu.

Click on the "Memory" tab at the top of the window that appears. Click on the 'Video memory" checkbox on the window. Move the slider that is to the right of "Video memory" all the way to the right to increase the video memory. Close the window by clicking the red button in its upper left corner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Virtual PC is no longer being supported by Microsoft, so updates and new versions of the Mac's operating system may not work properly with it.
