How to Donate to Charity for a Christmas Gift
Instead of spending money on material goods for friends and family, put that money toward a charitable cause. Many charities welcome your donations in honor of loved ones at Christmastime. The charities benefit from your generosity and you take care of your holiday shopping list while truly honoring the spirit of the season.

1
Make an online donation to the charity of your choice using your credit card. Print the confirmation slip which shows the charity name and amount donated. Include this slip in your Christmas card to the recipient.
-
2
Pack a shoebox full of toys and school goods for a child in need. Wrap this shoebox like a present to give to your recipient with an explanation letter or card. The two of you can then mail the shoebox to Samaritan's Purse for its Operation Christmas Child program, which sends gifts to needy children the world over.

Research charities that have mission statements that are of interest to your recipient. Search online databases such as the one included in the Resources section of this article. Make donations to these charities with an explanation on the card stating that you wanted to encourage a cause in which they believe.

4
Buy a gift produced by a company that sends part of the proceeds to charity. Consider purchasing from fair trade good stores like Ten Thousand Villages or companies that partner with charitable organizations. Review the list provided by Marie Claire in the Resources section of this article for charitable gift ideas.

5
Donate to a local community building project in return for having a plaque or brick engraved in your honor. Instead of allowing the organization to put your name on the plaque, give them the name of your Christmas list recipient.
