How to Carry a Sniper Rifle Sling
For those who hunt using large-caliber rifles, or for those training in sniper tactics, a sling can be a frustrating nightmare. A sling is designed to keep the rifle securely stowed on your person while you are not attempting to shoot. A rifle should never be slung when on patrol, as trying to unsling your rifle creates noise and movement that can easily give away your position. If you need to carry your rifle in a sling, it should be tight against your back.
Instructions

1
Attach the sling to your rifle. Depending on your rifle, the sling may be attached to sling swivels or straps that are placed on the buttstock.
-
2
Loosen the sling by sliding the center keeper to create slack, lengthening the sling.

-
3
Place the rifle behind your body, with the barrel angled down to the ground and the buttstock protruding above your shoulder.
-
4
Tighten the sling across your chest by sliding the center keeper again. Make sure that the sling is tight and the rifle isn't knocking around as you walk.

Tips & Warnings
Slinging the rifle on the shoulder isn't a very secure posture, although this position does create quicker access to the rifle than when it's behind your back.
Only sling the rifle when danger or game is not present. A slung rifle is hard to access, and if attacked you're most likely to get stuck fumbling with your sling rather than defending yourself.
