How to Find Carriers on Cell Phone Towers

How to Find Carriers on Cell Phone Towers thumbnail
Towers are often host to a number of antennas from different cell phone carriers.

For better or worse, the landscape is now dotted with communications towers that carry antennas and transmit signals for cell phones, television, radio, emergency communications and a host of other electronic applications. Identifying who's who can be tricky since a tower may be owned by one party and space on that tower may be leased to numerous other parties for placing antennas. Nevertheless, sorting through the tower/antenna maze is relatively straightforward.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the address of the tower you want to know about. The tower itself may have a conventional address, just like a house or building, but if not, jot down the address of a nearby structure.

    • 2

Visit AntennaSearch.com. This site is a comprehensive directory of more than a million towers and antennas across the United States.

    • 3

Enter the address in the search box and click "Go." If the site returns more than one "Target Address" click on the one for which you want information.

The searches at AntennaSearch are sometimes slow, especially in urban areas, so be patient.

    • 4

Select "View Tower Results" or "View Antenna Results" from the search results. Towers are the physical structures that can be hundreds of feet high. Antennas are much smaller and are the actual radiowave emitters. The site will build a map according to your selection.

    • 5

Use the zoom slider on the map to zero in on your selected address. Click on the tower or antenna of interest to you to view a record of the carrier or company that owns the antenna or tower. Click on the company name to display a detailed record.
