How to Build a Seasonal Wardrobe
Building a seasonal wardrobe can be confusing for even the most experienced shoppers. Traditionally, clear colors represent spring. "Dusty" pastels are in style for summer. For fall, harvest colors become popular and winter brings more jewel tones. Women update their clothing to be more trendy as well as comfortable in seasonal weather. Whatever your style, there are some rules to live by when building a seasonal wardrobe.

Identify which colors look best on you. A pale-skinned woman with blond hair most likely looks best in summer colors like pale purple and light blue. A brunette woman with an olive complexion will probably do best in winter colors like rich reds and blues. Knowing your color palette will work for you in any season. If you are a summer lady, try choosing the lighter shades of color throughout the year. If you are a winter woman, however, try to pick out the deep, bright shades from each season.

Use the "4-2-2" formula to begin your wardrobe. Find four tops, two layering pieces and two bottoms that coordinate and are in your color palette. Focus on one outfit at a time, then add on. Choose two different tops with a layering piece and a bottom that can be matched with either. Then repeat. A successful 4-2-2 combination will make at least eight outfit options.

Add on items from your closet or that you find throughout the season. As the season changes, decide which pieces will need to be replaced and which ones can be reused. A good pair of jeans can be worn year-round and some of your summer tops can be reused as layering pieces for colder days.

Tips & Warnings
Make your clothes work for you with color and fit. Clothes that fit your size and shape are always more appealing than clothes that are ill-fitting and obviously uncomfortable.
